SBHC Closures Impact Thousands of Children

As a result of the grim economic climate and devastating budget cuts to SBHCs and their sponsoring institutions, 15 SBHCs were forced to close their doors this year. Nearly 5,000 children and youth have been impacted by the loss of these centers. The total number of New York State SBHCs is now at 215 sites. The need for advocacy for SBHCs statewide has never been greater!

Below is a list of the sites that have closed:

Chenango Memorial Hospital (10 sites)

  • Bainbridge/Guilford Central Middle/High School
  • Greenlawn Elementary
  • Guilford Elementary School
  • Norwich High School
  • Norwich Middle School
  • Oxford Middle School
  • Oxford Primary/High School
  • Perry Browne Intermediate School
  • Stanford J. Gibson Primary School
  • Unadilla Valley Central School

Kaleida Health (3 sites closed and 1 site did not open due to insufficient funding)

  • Grover Cleveland High School
  • Futures Academy
  • South Park High School

Suffolk Department of Health Services (1 site)

  • Eastern BOCES

Woodhull Medical Center (1 site)

  • ACORN High School for Social Justice
